Talk:Installing DSpace on Debian/testing
From DSpace Wiki
It appears that the requirement to turn off Java Security Manager applies also for tomcat 5.5 at least under ubuntu (e.g. in /etc/default/tomcat5.5 set TOMCAT5_SECURITY=NO.). On Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy), the symptom upon accessing DSpace will be an exception that begins with java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission dspace.configuration read)
It would be helpful for some warning of this to be in the the installation doc.
There are dire warnings in various places not to turn off Java security in tomcat, so I wonder what is the difficulty with making DSpace live in a tomcat security regime. To me, this seems especially important since DSpace users get to write on your file system.
